Jeffrey's Heaven Date, Today, February 18, 2010

It was time to go to the accident site and replace the old cross with silk flowers, with a new cross with silk flowers. This year I chose Sunflowers. They were beautiful. After attaching the flowers to the last couple of crosses, I got smart this time, and got some sunflower sways! That was SO MUCH EASIER TO ATTACH - just entwine them around the cross!!
Each time I tell my family/friends that I am going alone to replace the cross and throw some flowers into the creek, they put up a fuss, and don't allow me to go alone. So, someone has gone with me each year; either one of my dear friends FW or Becky. It is a busy and dangerous road, but I'm not afraid. I've been there before and done much more there, so standing on the top of the bridge and affixing the new cross and tossing fresh flowers into the creek doesn't scare me.
This year, my dear friend Becky (Bex), decided to spend the day with me. It seems only right, and poignant that Bex went with me yesterday, as it was Bex that drove me around that day to find Jeffrey, and we found him.

So, yesterday morning, Bex came over, and we fixed the cross together, stopped to pick up some wild flowers and some roses, then headed out to the accident site. We put the cross up, and then tossed the flowers in the creek, while talking to Jeffrey.

When we drove up, we saw a city maintenance truck there with some guys working on the guard rail. I was concerned that they might have something to say about us being there, so I went to talk to them. Turns out that there was an accident there, someone ran into the guard rail where Jeffrey did. This time, the car was not able to penetrate the now stronger guard rail and the thick posts restraining the guard rail.

I mentioned to Bex that it was because of Jeffrey that those stronger and thicker guard rail and posts were there. That it was because of Jeffrey that those people's lives were saved. Bex had another take on it. She said that maybe it was Jeffrey that held those people back. Hmm...... something to think about.

Awwww, tears. And, it is both. It is because of Jeffrey that the guard rail has been reinforced AND I'm sure he is protecting others along that dangerous stretch...

I'll see you this evening. And, thank you for the pictures. The cross looks wonderful, bright and alive. I'm so glad Bex went with you since I was tied up at school.

Which ever way you chose to look at it - what it boils down to is that the good in Jeffrey and about Jeffrey continues to live on.

Hugs to you, my friend.
love,

I love the new cross. I like that it's cheery -- and fresh. I always notice these on the road so know that people *do* notice.

More than anything, I feel blessed to know you and hope that every year becomes a little easier.

Sending you a big, happy hug to know you.

Glad i was able to be with you, Dez...and please know this; i will never, never, never let you spend that date alone to visit the accident site by yourself if i can help it! There's always time in my day to be there for you with regard to this...k?

And yes; there is a definite poetic symetry to the guardrail being repaired at the very moment we arrived at Jeffrey's Heaven-site. It does appear that at great cost to you and your family, your tradgedy saved someone elses life, and something in the universe wanted us to KNOW IT & take that knowlege with us...that's a good thing! :o)

Anyway ~ i finally found my way to your blog! :O) Thanks for inviting me in...see you soon for another lunch and movie date...

love n' hugs ~

Bex :o)

Bex: Yes, there certainly was a message there with those guys there fixing that guard rail. I'm so glad that you were able to spend the day with me too. Thanks so much! And, glad you found me! :)

Thanks for sharing these pictures and this difficult day with us. I can't imagine how hard it must have been for you. You have quite a strength, though, and you are to be commended for that. Jeffrey had a wonderful mother. Hugs!

Especially since working on my mother's family's experience, I truly believe that Jeff is there trying his best to help others who can receive his message. I just stopped in to have a look around the blogging families.

You are an amazing person, Dez. I'm so sorry for the pain you're having to endure. Your memorial looks beautiful.
