My DH and I went to visit Jeffrey's place the other day. What we found was devastating. Someone had tried to dig up Jeffrey's Marker! There was dirt piles every where. There were signs where someone had tried to lift it on one side, and instead, left the marker chipped.
On one side, they had dug almost all the way down to the end of the marker about 10 inches down in the earth! There was also some kind of liquid spilt and stained the white lettering. The Metal spray of red roses that was at the top of the Marker was all bent up and thrown back a few feet.
We immediately called the funeral home's office and spoke to the director and he met us at Jeffrey's place. He was just as mortified as we were. He said that he would have his staff reset the Marker and would talk to his boss to try and figure out something so this would never happen again. He said that they are not responsible for the damage to the Marker unless it is caused by their staff.
I'm to call him Monday and find out the result of their conversation of how this could have happened, and how to keep this from happening again!
Why would a person do this? What kind of person wants to defile something so sacred? It's sacred to me. I can't imagine why they would pick Jeffrey's marker. It is designed with what we thought Jeffrey would like. The marker is Black Granite, with a white skateboarder skating upwards (like skating up a half-pipe). Jeffrey's name and dates are on the other side (in white - all the white is intended, not raised), with his picture underneath. I don't get it. It makes me sick.
I will find out more after I speak to the director, and then try to clean it up. The liquid spilled on the skateboarder is dark. DH thinks it is oil. I don't know what it is.
I don't figure that they/we will ever know who did this. I hope they can come up with a solution to beef up the security. :-(

I AM VERY SORRY that this happened.. I know in our local place, they can't leave anything in the "baby land" area because people steal it.. can you imagine that.. steal from "Babyland"? Some people are just too sick for words...

That's sick. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I would bet it was some drunk kids - they probably like what you had engraved on it and thought it would be "cool" to take it home. How awful for you guys. I hope they can figure out some way to keep things a little safer.
Oh, and I thought I would tell you - the word verification word is "mother". I think someone is trying to tell you that you were a good one. I hope that doesn't bother you - I really believe in little signs like that.

Fiwa: Thanks. Mother? Yes, I do believe in signs like that. At least I really want to when things happen at home, like a light flickering, or any odd ocurrence.
You know, all of his friends (and mine) tell me that, and I feel that I was... But, then I start thinking of all the things I should have done better, or differently. I know I shouldn't have regrets, but I do. Anyway, thanks for telling me about mother.

Honey, it's obvious Jeffrey was rich in the most important thing, and that is love. You can look at his face in those pictures and see the love shining through. He got that from you.
